Chicago Cubs Families Hit a Home Run for Local Kids
The families of Chicago Cubs players gathered to feed local children on weekends.
The enthusiastic group filled 200 bags of delicious and nutritious weekend meals to be donated to the Pederson-McCormick Boys & Girls Club in the Uptown neighborhood.
“We’re thrilled to work with our local Boys & Girls Club to ensure the youth there receive food on the weekends to stay healthy and nourished. Our Cubs associates have volunteered at the Club, packaging food, and our Cubs players’ families have packed food. We were also able to host all youth from the Club at a Cubs game this summer.” shared Jennifer Dedes Nowak, assistant director of Community Affairs and Cubs Charities.
When the food was delivered, the children at Pederson-McCormick were overjoyed.
According to George Colone, director of the Boys & Girls Club, “Blessings in a Backpack has allowed us to continue to serve as a life-saving oasis among the urban pressures of poverty and hunger that many of our youth face. The healthy meals help our youth build self-esteem and confidence while creating healthy habits that will last a lifetime.”
Thank you, Chicago Cubs, for a decade of feeding children on weekends. That is a grand slam of generosity!
